There are several different types of scholarships available for education abroad. Texas A&M University has a generous allotment of education abroad specific funding available through the university, departments, and colleges. There are also opportunities outside of campus resources, including local and national programs. Visit the Scholarship section for more information.

Deadlines vary depending on the scholarship. In general, it can be as early as 1.5 years to 6 months before your program. It is advisable to make note of all scholarship deadlines when you start looking for a program. Since scholarships are not guaranteed and in most instances you will not find out if you have been awarded until after you have financially committed to the program, we recommend making sure you have the funds to pay for the program without scholarships. Also note that most program fees will be due the semester prior to your program departure.

In many instances your individual financial aid package is applicable to a credit-bearing education abroad opportunity. Once you have decided on a program, please meet with a financial aid advisor to explore how your aid package might be applied.

Yes, your available federal and state financial aid award can be adjusted as long as you are participating in an approved credit-bearing international experience. In order to utilize most forms of federal and state financial aid (loans and grants), students need to maintain at least half-time enrollment status. The best time to meet with a financial aid advisor is during the exploration phase. The more specific you are about the type of program that you are interested in and the costs associated the program, the more specific information you will receive. Once you are confirmed to a program you will want to meet with your financial aid advisor again to ensure you understand the award process. It depends on the term of your program and the type of financial aid that has been awarded. Once you have selected your program and accepted your awards, please communicate with Scholarships and Financial Aid regarding disbursement. Generally, financial aid is disbursed about 10 days before the start of the term or 10 days before the start of your program whichever is later. Since scholarships are not guaranteed and in most instances you will not find out if you have been awarded until after you have financially committed to the program, we recommend making sure you have the funds to pay for the program without scholarships. Also note that most program fees will be due the terms prior to your program departure.

• Students participating on faculty-led programs are exempted from the Health Center Fee, Rec Sports Fee, and University Center Complex Fee. Note: If enrolled for one summer term on campus and one summer term off campus, you will be charged all the fees.
• Students participating on an exchange program pay all the Texas A&M University fees including the $300 non-refundable confirmation fee.
• Students participating on affiliate provider programs and transfer credit-bearing independent travel experiences are exempt from all Texas A&M University fees except the $100 non-refundable 'SABR Independent Travel Fee'.
• Students participating on an independent travel experience, such as an internship, research, or volunteer program, please contact abroad@tamu.edu.

Program Fees are associated with program expenses that are independent of the actual class, such as lodging, in-country transportation, excursions, etc. Program fees are charged by Education Abroad, a TAMU college, TAMU department, an affiliate provider, or another provider or university if participating in an  Independent Travel experience.

Texas A&M University Tuition & Fees are the expenses associated with enrolling in a class or classes. Texas A&M University tuition and fees are always charged by Student Business Services and will be the same whether you study in College Station or abroad.

Eligible students can utilize benefits from their Texas Guaranteed Tuition Plan (Formerly known as Texas Tomorrow Fund), ROTC Tuition and Fees Scholarship, and Veterans benefits. Benefits from the above-mentioned can be applied toward the tuition and fees portion of the students’ education abroad expenses. However, how students access these benefits differs by their program type.
