Education Abroad is an official U.S. Department of State Passport Acceptance Facility. We accept passport documentation and offer in-house passport photo services. Please read below for important information about applying for a new US passport or renewing a soon-to-expire one. 

Two separate payments are required:

  1. Application Fee -

    • Check or Money Order only (no cash or credit/debit cards)made payable to the US Department of State 

  2. Execution Fee/Photos -

    • Check, Money Order, or Credit/Debit card only (no cash), made payable to TAMU

Passport Services are closed during all Texas A&M University holidays and for certain departmental events. Please call 979-845-0544 to verify hours.


Additional information:

  • Walk-in applicants are accepted on a first-come first-served basis.

  • Due to the time it takes to process passport applications, arriving near closing hours will not guarantee that you will be served. Please plan your arrival accordingly.

For a new adult passport (age 16 and older), you will need the following documentation:

  • Proof of Citizenship – Original or certified copy of Birth Certificate, previous passport, Certificate of Naturalization, Consular Report of Birth Abroad

    • If you were born in TEXAS, CALIFORNIA, or PUERTO RICO, please click here for more information about additional birth certificate requirements.

  • Proof of Identity – State issued driver’s license/identification card

  • Photos – One 2x2 passport photo meeting the US Department of State requirements

  • Application Fee – Payable to the US Department of State, check or money order only

  • Execution Fee – Payable to TAMU, credit/debit card, check, or money order only

  • DS-11 Application– Filled out in BLACK ink only and printed single-sided

Notes:

  • Applicants aged 16-17 years old must provide proof of parental awareness when applying.
    • Examples include one parent accompanying the applicant or a signed statement of consent from one parent with a front and back photo copy of parent’s ID.

parents and minor must be present when executing the application.

  • Proof of Parental Consent – Both parents must be present. If one or both parents cannot be present, appropriate documentation must be provided.

If you have a minor passport issued when you were 15 years old or younger and valid for 5 years, you CANNOT renew your passport. Please see passport requirements for New Adult Passport.

You can renew your passport by mail if your most recent passport:

  • Is submitted with your application

  • Is undamaged (other than normal "wear and tear")

  • Was issued when you were age 16 or older (must have 10-year validity)

  • Was issued within the last 15 years

  • Was issued in your current name (or you can document your name change with an original or certified copy of your marriage certificate, divorce decree, or court order)

Documents needed: 

  • DS-82 Application– Filled out in BLACK ink only, printed single-sided

  • Most recent passport – Meeting the requirements listed above

  • Name Change Documents (if applicable) – Marriage license, divorce decree, court-ordered name change document

  • Photos – One 2x2 passport photo meeting the US Department of State requirements

  • Application Fee - Payable to the US Department of State, check or money order only

If your previous passport has been lost or stolen, you must complete a DS-64: Statement of Lost or Stolen Passport form in addition to the requirements for a New Adult or Minor Passport.
If you report your lost or stolen passport online, please print out the confirmation and bring it with your documentation.

Original or certified copy of citizenship documentation must be submitted. The Department of State Passport Agency will mail it back to you.

 

A certified birth certificate must meet the following requirements:

  • Full name of the applicant

  • Date of Birth

  • Place of Birth

  • Both parent's full names

  • Raised, embossed, impressed or multicolored seal of issuing authority

  • Registrar's signature

  • The date the certificate was filed with the registrar's office. This must be within one year of birth or you will need secondary evidence of citizenship as well.

Fees for photos (credit/debit, check, or money order only):

  • $15 for 2, 2”x 2” U.S. and E.U. passport-sized photos.*

  • $20 for all other sizes and the number of pictures will vary based on the size requested.*

  • $5 for additional sheet of photo prints

  • $2 for digital copies. These will not be cropped to size requirements.
     

*Starting August 1, 2019, the standard photo fee increased to $15 and the non-standard photo fee increased to $20

Photo Style Requirements:

  • For U.S. Passport Photo Requirements please refer to the U.S Department of State website for up to date information.

  • For passport or visa photo requirements for other countries, please refer to the appropriate embassy or consulate website and bring the required photo size with you.

Please do NOT wear:

  • white or light-colored shirt

  • strapless top

  • any type of uniform

  • glasses

  • headbands 


Although the Passport Services will do its best to take acceptable passport and visa pictures, we cannot guarantee that they will be accepted by the processing agency. The suitability of passport and visa pictures is subjective and is determined by the individual processing the document. Education Abroad is not responsible for the delays this may cause, but if your photo is rejected we will take another photo if you can provide our office with the rejection notice.

Can I apply for a passport at Texas A&M Education Abroad if I’m not a student, faculty, or staff member?
Absolutely. Any US citizen may apply for a US passport with us.

How long does it take to get a passport?
Routine processing takes 4-8 weeks and Expedited processing takes 3 weeks. Processing times are subject to change, please check the Department of State Travel site for up to date information.

How long does it take to apply for my passport at Texas A&M Education Abroad?
The time it takes to apply for a passport varies. Bringing all of your documentation including a completed application will reduce the time spent in our office. Peak periods such as the spring semester and late fall will have longer wait times for walk-ins. The summer is generally slower as students are away. It is recommended to schedule an appointment on Monday to ensure the quickest and most efficient service.

How can I track the status of my application?
You may track the status of your application online at any time. Please note that it takes 7-10 business days after applying for your passport to be tracked online.

Will I get my original proof of citizenship back?
Yes. The Passport Agency will send your original proof of citizenship along with any other original documentation back to you in a separate mailing.

Can I apply for a friend or relative who is not present?
No. Every applicant must apply for a new adult or minor passport in person, including minor/infant applicants.

Can I pick up my passport at Texas A&M Education Abroad when it's ready?
No. The passport will be mailed to the mailing address indicated on the application.
